~ Molly Friedenfeld
I heard a
very interesting story from a cab driver recently. He shared that he had worked in California as
a chauffeur for a wealthy woman in her 80s.
When she died, he was surprised to learn that she had left him the use
of her beautiful home in Pasadena for a year as well as his salary for that
time. I asked him how he had liked using
the house. He said that he had stayed in
it three nights and had some friends over, but that he preferred to go back and
stay in his small apartment. "It's
always nice to be with your own things," he said. He did enjoy his year off and was grateful
for the kindness she had left behind, which I think continues to inspire him. After he dropped me off, he was on his way to
return a mobile phone that a customer had left behind the previous day.
