"You don't have to have anything in
common with people you've known since you were five. With old friends, you've got your whole life
in common."
~ Lyle Lovett
A friend from
elementary school recently invited seven of us for dinner. The organizer lives in another city, so she
took the opportunity of being in town to set up our getting together. Several of us graduated together from high
school, but two or three left the school before then, although we continued to
see each other. I appreciate not only
the friend who organized the reunion, but also everyone who is making the
effort to attend. While we may not be
family, in many ways we grew up together and have quite a shared history.
