Overwhelming Kindness (or the Kindness of Showing Up)

“I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy.  Let’s face it, friends make life a lot more fun.”
~ Charles R. Swindoll

I recently had a special event at my old high school.  And I guess not just high school because I went to elementary school there, too.  It was a special day and I was completely overwhelmed by the kindness of friends –from all different parts of my life – who showed up.  My oldest friend – a girl whom I have known since we were in 1st Grade together – drove over from the other side of the state.  Another member of our middle school gang flew in from another city.  One girl (and yes we may be past the age to call them that, but that’s what they are to me) was finishing a salsa class when another friend told her about it and she drove over.  It was such a treat to have not only my family, but also such dear friends join me.  My heart was truly filled with joy.  And I was reminded again of how much showing up matters.
