The Kindness of Someone Else’s Father

“I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.”
~ Sigmund Freud

I recently attended an event with a group of attorneys.  At one point, I was in conversation with two attorneys who have known each other for a number of years – since high school.  One shared with the other that after his father died, the other’s father would reach out several times a year to check up on him.  And, the first one said, it did not stop after a couple of years.  The other’s father kept checking in on him for a very long time.  The attorney whose father died said that not only was that a huge support for him, but also it taught him a valuable lesson.  He has tried to pay that type of kindness forward whenever he can.
