~ Jared Brock
On a recent
weekend, I traveled to an out-of-town meeting.
A colleague drove me to the airport after our meeting. In the car, I mentioned to her that I really
liked the brooch she was wearing on her jacket.
No sooner were the words out of my mouth than she unfastened the pin,
gave it to me and said, "Well then you must have it." I protested, but realized immediately that
gracious acceptance was the way to go.
My
colleague's generosity reminded me of another time in my life when someone gave
me a pin after I complimented it. It was
my art history professor in Italy -- nearly 35 years ago.
