The Kindness of Humor as Distraction

"Like a welcome summer rain, humor may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air and you."
~ Langston Hughes

A woman I know was having one of those routine diagnostic procedures that come with age.  Routine, of course, to everyone except the person having them.  She was reassured by friends who remembered her in prayer and sent their good wishes.  And as she waited for her procedure, she was distracted by funny messages from one of her dearest friends who lives far but is always present.  Her friend even sent her jokes and funny photos to cheer her up.  Her husband, who was sitting next to her as she waited, got into the act, too, and texted her very silly jokes.  Humor was a welcomed distraction.
