The Kindness of Keeping Confidences

"Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none."
~ William Shakespeare

I had a friend and professional colleague who joked that she would "confess" people.  For whatever reason -- it might have been her beautiful smile or her ability to listen, people would tell her all kinds of things.  And while she joked about "confessing" people, there was no doubt that she could keep confidences.  Less than a year ago, my friend and I were riding in the back of a beat-up cab through dark streets in another country and we had another one of those heart-to-heart conversations.  I thought about that ride recently and what a wonderful way she had of listening and of inviting trust.
