The Kindness of a Deadline Reprieve

“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for kindness.”
~ Lucius Annaeus Seneca

School form deadlines remind me that summer is coming to an end.  Goodbye to slower days, less running around, no rushed breakfasts or lunches packed in a hurry…  On a recent dark and stormy afternoon, I called one of my children’s school to see until what time the office was open on the last day of the deadline.  I held my breath as I waited for the response from the person who answered.  And then the clouds parted – at least, in my mind.  “Given the weather, why don’t you drop them off tomorrow?” the woman on the other end of the phone said.  Really?  Yes, she assured me.  I was thrilled.  And just like that, this woman whom I’ve never met greatly improved my day.
