Sitting next to a group of teenage girls, I heard them criticizing another girl's appearance. I have heard them discuss models and actresses before, so I wondered if they were talking about someone they knew. "Are you talking about a real person?" I asked. "Yes," one of them answered, "A girl in our class." As I sat there a little stunned, one of the girls told the others, "I think she is pretty." And one of the others said in an accusatory tone, "Oh, you always see the best in everyone."
A little later, I approached the girl who had stood up to the others and told her that she would never regret not joining in that kind of talk. And my hope is that others will follow her example.
