~ William Arthur Ward
My daughter
and I made a late-evening visit to the grocery store to buy what she needed for
the school food drive and some other items.
At the cashier, my daughter realized that she had forgotten
something. "Go on and get it,
" the cashier said as there was no one behind us. My daughter ran off just as a couple lined up
behind us and began unloading their items on the conveyor belt. "I don't think she is going to make it
back in time," I told the cashier as she finished scanning our items. Overhearing our conversation, the gentleman
said, "that's okay -- we can wait."
I thanked him. A minute or so
later, my daughter came running with the missing item; we finished paying and
were set to go. I said goodbye to the
gentleman and thanked him again.
"Happy Thanksgiving," he replied.
