The Kindness of Sibling Support

"If you want to do really important things in life and big things in life, you can't do anything by yourself.  And your best teams are your friends and your siblings."
~ Deepak Chopra

The other day, one of my teenagers was trying to convince us that she deserved a new privilege.  She made quite a case for it, but we were not budging.  Then her younger brother got in on the act.  He wrote us a note about why his older sister deserved the privilege: "she will learn something new" and "it will make her feel responsible."  He also explained that she would eventually stop being mad at me.  "I also think if you give her time, she will let you into her world," he assured me.  Much to my surprise, my daughter prevailed.  Her brother felt responsible for her success.  For my part, I was thrilled that he had come to her assistance.
