Kindness, a Student and the Homeless

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.  If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”
~ Dalai Lama

A teacher at my children’s school shared a story recently about a high school student who had greatly impressed her on a school trip to another city last year.  The teacher recounted how the student, then a high school junior, had bought a box of granola bars and distributed them to homeless people she encountered.  On one occasion, she asked a homeless person if he was hungry and took him to a restaurant where she bought him a meal.  This student, now a senior, celebrated her birthday recently by inviting a group of her classmates to join her to feed and visit with the homeless.
