"Good friends, good books and a
sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
~ Mark Twain
On a recent outing
at a large and historic public pool, a
group of elementary children enjoyed exploring the pool's caves, bridges and
waterfalls. One little boy stayed out of
the pool. At one point, several of his
friends -- two boys and two girls -- came to convince him that he should try
one of the caves. Surprised by the
kindness of his friends, the little boy joined the others and explored the
caves. I suspect this boy ended up
feeling pretty good both because he did something he was afraid to do and
because he realized how much his friends really cared about him.
