The Kindness of Seeing Rightly

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

During a recent and pretty routine text exchange about piano tuners and parties, my lovely friend texted, "You sound down..." and asked if I wanted to do a pizza night.  I picked up the phone and called her.  "Was I completely off base?" she asked me.  No, I laughed and said that she was spot on.  I marveled at her ability to read through what I thought were pretty innocuous texts and see that I didn't seem to be in a great mood.  Instead of pizza, we opted for ice cream.  Needless to say, the conversation and the ice cream left nary a trace of the less-than-fabulous mood.
