"If you bungle raising your
children, I don't think whatever else you do matters much."
~ Jackie Kennedy
At a Fourth
of July parade, I was sitting next to a 10-year-old, a friend of my
children. The people in the parade were
throwing candy at the spectators. This
little boy had gotten a piece of gum and I asked him whether he was going to eat
it. Yes, he said, but later because he
did not want to eat the gum if he was going to run around as he might choke on
it. Kidding around, I asked him how he got
to be so smart. "My parents raised
me right," he said. The little boy
then went on to tell me that if all parents raised their children correctly,
the world would be a nicer place.
