Where I live,
there are many occasions when police officers facilitate heavy traffic --
school zones, special events... I was
very surprised recently when a police officer trying to keep traffic moving
outside a stadium actually let one driver go the opposite way and pick up his
passengers. A few yards later, another
police officer directing traffic joked with one of the drivers. It was late in the evening on a weeknight, so
I don't doubt that both officers and drivers were tired, but the good humor and
kindness of the police officers made for a much more pleasant experience --
even for this observer.
